Hi my name is Saskia Batteau and I love creating with textiles as much as I love working with and learning from creators themselves. I recently received an invitation to visit Himalayan Tapestries in India to come and help create as a 'designer/artist in residence'. This trip would truly be a dream come true.
Himalayan Tapestries (HT)
Since 16 years HT has been dedicated to high-quality, hand-crafted Indian textile products. Nestled in the lower reaches of the Indian Himalayas, HT is a socially-responsible company dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged women and families in Northern India by providing skills training and employment. Through an apprenticeship model, they train women in a range of creative skills from natural dying and hand-blocked textile printing to embroidery, sewing and quilting. Once trained, they provide an opportunity for fair and meaningful employment through the Tapestry Project (Source:website HT)
My costs
I will be living In Dehradun and working with HT for a 3 month period. I'm looking to leave (DV) in October and return in December 2018. My basic living and cost will be mostly taken care of but I am still in need of $/EUR for the flight, other daily costs, travel expenses while there, health insurance, and unforeseen costs for traveling abroad.
How you can help
You can either choose to support me with some $/EUR, but if you don't have these means, please choose to share my story on social media, with your friends and family or perhaps with someone you know personally that might have the means to support me financially.
