In loving memory of Christine Rago, we are honored to share that $1,600 has been raised to plant 200 trees as part of a long-term forest restoration project. This initiative, located in Georgia, supports the revival of a vital natural landscape—one that is permanently protected from logging and rich in ecological value.
These trees will take root on 2,000 newly preserved acres, recently secured by Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources. This land will offer sanctuary to endangered species, including the state’s rarest plant, the Hairy Rattleweed, and its official reptile, the Gopher Tortoise.
Although no active restoration efforts currently exist in Tennessee—where Laurie and Chris often found joy—we believe this project would have truly resonated with Christine’s love for nature and life.
While our initial goal of planting 200 trees has been met, we are continuing to support this unique project. Because the forest will never be harvested, each donation contributes to a living legacy that could thrive for centuries.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to every donor. Your generosity honors Christine in a way that will endure for generations—and leaves a lasting gift for the Earth.
Chris Rago was a retired Chicago Firefighter and an avid animal lover. Nicknamed “Smurf” by her CFD co-workers, her small frame wasn’t big enough to hold her huge, loving heart. After retiring, she moved to a farm with her partner and soulmate to expand her love of animals by continuing to rescue Border Collies. She then acquired chickens for fun with the dogs. Next came sheep to protect the chickens, followed by llamas to protect the sheep.
A wonderful life was born in the house that Chris built.
It was unfortunate that the happiness could not last.
Chris Rago passed away April 23, 2025 after fighting lung cancer.
Her deeply loving friends want to help by planting trees in reverence to this heaven-bound woman and create clean air in a way that Chrissy would have done herself.
We are hoping to raise enough money to plant 200 trees in her name and honor.
Planting 200 trees will provide enough clean air for 800 people annually. Any funds raised go directly to the Arbor Foundation who will see to getting the trees planted.
In her living years, she gave 30 years of her life saving people’s lives. In her death, she can save hundreds more.
Instead of sending flowers that will wilt away in a week, let us plant a tree that will live for a hundred years.
100% of all donated funds will purchase and plant trees in the forest. Every $100 plants 5 trees where are they are desperately needed.
