Inclusive Sensory Garden at Outwood Primary Academy Darfield
Donation protected
We have an exciting vision for the children of Outwood Primary Academy Darfield (near Barnsley): to transform our "secret garden" into a dynamic engaging sensory area. This is not just any garden; it will be a carefully designed space brimming with:
- Textural pathways: With different surfaces to walk and touch.
- Fragrant plants: To engage their sense of smell.
- Wind chimes and water features: For auditory stimulation.
- Brightly colored plants and visual elements: To capture their attention.
- Tactile panels and natural materials: For hands-on exploration.
It will offer invaluable developmental opportunities for all our pupils, including those with special educational needs. Picture a place where curiosity blossoms, creativity thrives, and well-being is nurtured. This is our overarching aim.
To make this dream a reality, we have an extraordinary champion in Grandad Ian. On Saturday, October 25th, Ian, an experienced marathon runner, will be joined by Adam, one of our teachers, to take part in the gruelling Beachy Head Marathon to raise crucial funds for our project. The school Sensory Garden project will be a vital resource for our children with SEND but valuable for all, including Ian’s own grandson, who is autistic with significant sensory needs. His commitment to enhancing the lives of all our children is truly remarkable, especially in these challenging times. Your support will directly fund the creation of this magical space.
