My name is Jenna Hansen and I have two reindeer. I started raising Crash, my first reindeer, with the intent to sell him at the 4H market auction and keep the money for college. But once I started to work with him and really got to know him, I found that I didn't have the heart to butcher him.
It was during a 4-H meeting, I heard the 4-H Peninsula Counsil President, Forrest Nelson, speak about the homeless youth on the Kenai Peninsula. I had no idea just how many kids my own age and younger didn't have a place to sleep, or a warm coat or shoes for school. She told us that many kids couch surfed or slept in their cars to avoid being labeled, "homeless."
I couldn't even imagine not haveing basic nessesities, or something to open on Christmas morning, so an idea formed. I could use Crash to raise money to help these kids, and educate people about reindeer!
The winter of 2012 was our first debut. We were able to raise $756 for the homeless and expose Crash to many different people and places. The next winter I added another reindeer, Comet to keep Crash company. With both reindeer, we were able to raise $1,014 last winter (2013) which was matched by the Soldotna Rotary, bringing the total to $2,028.
The money the reindeer and I make taking pictures will go directly to the immediate needs of the kids. It is my hope that through Go Fund Me I can raise enough money to cover the deficit of the school disctrict's Students in Transition program and add the rest to the "Let's build a HOME" fund.
So far this year, the reindeer and I have raised $660 and have a matching donation of $600. All I raise goes directly to the homeless youth in our community! My goal is to raise $555,000. With your help we can create a safe place, a home for all homeless kids on the Kenai Peninsula to go.
As I recieve donations during this Holiday season, I will be adding it to our money raised. Thank you for your help to feed, cloth and build a house for our homeless children!
