Cranial Helmets for Everleigh

If there has been one big thing I have learned after becoming a mother, is that it is okay to ask for help.

As a first time mom, I knew that there would be many challenges we would face as a family. However, I never knew that God would choose me to be a Special Needs momma to a beautiful, bright and sassy girl. She is our little medical miracle from pregnancy to birth. Everleigh was born at 34 weeks with an ultra rare chromosome disorder that less than 100 children have in the entire world. She had to spend 3mo in the NICU before we could even bring her home. With her medical complexities, we knew it was only a matter of time that we would have to battle our insurance company in order to make sure Everleigh receives the best care possible and can reach her fullest potential.

We have unfortunately just hit our first roadblock with Blue Cross in trying to get Everleigh’s cranial remolding helmets approved. Her pediatrician, geneticist, neurologist and physical therapist have all urged the medical importance of her getting a helmet. We went to our consultation with Cranial Technologies in October and due to her head being in the moderate to severe range, she would need two helmets for a whopping total of $5,000 ($2,500 per helmet). Insurance has denied it stating it is cosmetic and not medically necessary. Unfortunately, that is not the case for Everleigh. If not corrected, it can lead to increased chances of vision and ear problems, in addition to other problems with her chromosome abnormality being at the forefront.

We are running out of time and are desperately trying to find a way of being able to get Everleigh her helmets. It is recommended that babies get their helmets as soon as possible since their head growth begins to slow down by the time they turn 1. Everleigh is now at the 7mo mark. We are currently at the appeals process with the insurance but are asking for your help to get Everleigh her helmets so that we can begin the remolding of her poor little head. Any amount, big or small goes such a long way and means so much to Everleigh and her family.
