Cranial Helmet for Baby Sky!
Donation protected
Hello world!
We are trying to raise funds for our 7 month old baby Sky who is in need of a cranial helmet as soon as possible.
Both of our kids have had rough starts with milk protein allergies and reflux disease since birth. They’ve had to go on hypoallergenic formula and special medication in order to treat their internal bleeding. Our first born Coral is now a happy, energetic and healthy 2 year old, and we are hoping for her little brother to catch up with her too.
At Sky’s 5 month appointment, our pediatrician noticed that he could not turn his head to the left and his body was misaligned. He was diagnosed with Torticollis - a condition that inhibits the range of his neck and head’s motion, and Developmental Coordination Disorder - presented by his asymmetrical and significantly delayed motor skills for his age. He’s been working extremely hard the past few months, going to physical therapy every week, and doing daily developmental body training/strengthening.
He was also diagnosed with Plagiocephaly and Brachycephaly, which basically means that Sky’s skull has not formed properly. After being referred to a orthotics clinic, he recently had a cranial scan done and it was determined that he needs to wear a cranial helmet for 23 hours a day, for at least the next 3-4 months, in order to correct this. If left untreated, it will lead to permanent head deformity and can cause future issues with facial mobility, misaligned features, speech problems etc.
Unfortunately, insurance doesn’t cover cranial helmets unless it’s for post-brain surgery use. As Sky gets older, the window to treat this becomes smaller, so putting a deposit down for his helmet has become a time sensitive issue.
The total cost of the cranial helmet is $5,517 out of pocket. This does not even include the price of weekly appointments for necessary helmet adjustments with the orthotics team, which is expected to go on for at least 15 weeks.
Any little bit of help will offset the cost of Sky’s cranial helmet and weekly specialist visits.
Sky is such a resilient, giggly, tender soul, and we’re so lucky that he picked us to be his parents. We just want him to have a chance at the best life possible!
We appreciate any help you can send our way, even just sharing this link with others would mean a lot to us.
Thank you so much for your time and support!
Love,
