AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP CRANE DANCE FARM

Crane Dance Farm is a locally owned, small farm which is dedicated to raising food that is healthy for the consumer while using humane and regenerative farming practices. Jill and Mary have been regular fixtures at farmers’ markets for more than 20 years. They recently experienced a sudden and unexpected loss. We know how much Crane Dance Farm means to so many of you, which is why we've created this page for those who've been asking how they can help and want a meaningful way to show their support.

Unfortunately, they lost Max, their 5-year-old Red Devon breeding bull, who was born and raised on the farm. Losing him so suddenly was shocking and is a reminder that even the strongest animals can be vulnerable to the stress of rapid and extreme weather changes. Max was a gentle, robust, and respected presence in the fields and a vital part of Crane Dance’s regenerative farming operation. The farmers at Crane Dance have a pre-selected bull calf in the wings to eventually take Max’s place, but he won’t be ready for another 2–3 years. With Max’s unexpected passing, they now find themselves needing a mature bull much sooner than they had intended – actually, as soon as possible.

As part of a conscious approach, birthing on the farm is timed for spring and early summer, when the weather is milder and the pasture is at its most nourishing ~ supporting the health of both cows and calves. Calves are actually suited to these warmer seasons, as they are born with a lighter coat of hair! The breeding process must start soon to keep the farm on this schedule.

Obviously, the cost of replacing Max is an unplanned expense. If you have ever enjoyed any of their beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, eggs or honey, or you support the farmers and their farming methods, please join me in expressing that support by making a donation to help cover these costs so Jill and Mary can continue doing what they do best (and we all can continue to enjoy the fruits of their labor)!

Thank you!!
