This is my second attempt (3rd surgery) at correcting a degenerative spinal diagnosis.
The first attempt being done more than three years ago in Trinidad where the lowest vertebrae of my spine were fused. After 3-1/2 painful years of being unable to work, and visiting several different neurologist, neurosurgeons and orthopedic specialists in both Trinidad and the United States of America, with no answers to be had the Neurosciences team at the Mayo Clinic in Florida has been able to not only identify but have come up with a surgical plan to bring some semblance of normalcy to everyday life.
After almost 2 months to the day, and weeks of innumerable tests and evaluation, the team at Mayo Clinic has presented a single surgical recommendation - To repair a failed fusion at the L5/S1 level; this entails removing all existing hardware and resetting fusions at L3/L4, L4/L5, L5/S1 and adding additional hardware into the S1 level of the spine. The procedure is as complicated as it sounds and the fact that it’s considered corrective is a testament to this. Worth staying the obvious that because it is a re-do there are additional risks that have been considered and at this point accepted
While there as some contributing factors for this invasive intervention were obvious to me, others were only obvious and ONLY to the identified by the team at the Mayo Clinic.
Through your generous donations the money’s collected will be used to help off set the cost of surgery, multiple visits to the Mayo Clinic for milestone checkups and assessments.
As of 05/01 it’s all been good news.
While there were a few unforeseen hurdles during surgery it’s been catagorized a success! and now that the surgeons have done their part it’s up to the me to put in the work with the PT and OT teams here in the Us and back home.
