Most looking at this already know my story. Three years ago, I spent 77 days in the hospital after an intestinal tear caused an infection that led to an above-the-knee amputation. I have been working on rebuilding my life and body ever since. I exited the hospital 100 pounds lighter with many health concerns. I have since rebuilt everything within my power, and my overall health has dramatically improved. However, I have needed a new prosthetic and socket for over a year. My current unit has become useless and unusable in both fit and function. To regain my ability to walk and live a full life personally and professionally, I require a socket that fits and a knee that will be both functional and safe. Unfortunately, insurance has denied our recent claim, leaving us stuck with moving forward on our own. In addition, I am a high above-the-knee amputee and require a specialized prosthetic company experienced with these harder-to-solve cases, which adds travel expenses to LA for two different trips this summer. Any assistance is greatly appreciated to continue to recover any quality of life possible in this journey. For those that know me, fitness and functionality have been essential to me, and I am willing and devoted to any level of work required to recover anything possible. In this situation, the technology needed is necessary for me to take the next step in this process.
