Final Memorial for Craig P. Jeffers

Donation protected
It’s been a long 6 months for my sister’s family, the Jeffers. The $9000 needed for an upright gravestone to memorialize Craig remains out of reach of his family, & it weighs heavy on their minds & hearts.

Organ/tissue donor. Son of a Career Firefighter/EMT (Local 2363). Talented student-athlete at William Monroe High School. Big brother. Accepted into the prestigious Virginia Military Institute as a member of the Class of 2019. Community volunteer coaching assistant. All-round good teenager with a great smile – any who knew him can tell you about that great smile!

All that came to an end when my wonderful nephew’s life ended in a tragic vehicle accident out-of-state on June 10, 2015. A family member mourned as we lost a piece of our hearts; he is a friend deeply missed. Craig’s parents, Sam & Maureen, & his little brothers, Liam & Shea, have lived through what no family should. They are fortunate to belong to a caring community of neighbors & friends who have helped in so many ways since that day.

Craig has been honored with a resolution by the VA General Assembly House of Delegates, remembered as the tenacious “#2” by his hometown current youth football teams, & memorialized by his high school alma mater’s fall sports teams with #2’s on helmets & shirts.

Craig’s final expenses are greater than most. So far, the bills are $29,000, which includes ER hospital costs in SC, 2 funeral homes (1 each in Myrtle Beach & Charlottesville), transportation to return Craig home, burial costs, & a myriad of expenses incurred in the first few days after his accident. These bills are mostly caught up, due to the generosity of folks who contributed earlier.

But in addition to the costs they incurred in June, my sister Maureen sustained a back injury in mid-summer, resulting in surgery, which led Sam to take FMLA time off work to care for his family, further reducing their income.

So I’m asking ALL, from the bottom of my heart: if you can donate anything, PLEASE DO. His parents would like Craig’s headstone in place by HIS 19TH BIRTHDAY, MARCH 7, 2016. It takes 12 weeks for delivery, once the stone is ordered. And right now we all want Sam & Maureen to focus on Liam & Shea, not worry about money.

During this holiday season of praise, thanks & giving, we hope there are those that will help the Jeffers family achieve their goal. Many folks have already donated funds to the family, & for that they are VERY GRATEFUL. To those individuals we say: please share this, post it on your wall, and help SPREAD THE WORD!

THANK YOU from the bottom of Craig’s family’s hearts.
