ART for kids: Help us build The Craig ART Studio!

The Project

A foldable, portable art studio located at The Craig Gallery in Dartmouth, NS, will offer youth the opportunity to explore a multitude of art mediums in a free, accessible space. Youth and families will be welcomed to attend monthly educational art workshops lead by guest speakers and local artists, and through regular programming become exposed to a world of artistic cultural expression. Our goal for The Craig ART Studio is to foster creativity and help youth find their artistic voice while strengthening our community through the arts.

With enough money to complete the construction of our portable art studio, we will be able to promote expression through art creation; encourage skill development with education and provide access to supplies in a supportive, inclusive environment.

We hope you can help!

The Studio

The art studio will be open to the public weekly, taking advantage of our open and accessible space.

Our studio will be made up of two portable carts which are foldable and secured with a lock. The cart, while not in use, can still be used as tables while the lock keeps our supplies safe during the busy Alderney Landing weekend market.

This unique design allows us to accommodate our fluctuating space restrictions as a community and events center while allowing the studio to be mobile for other events.

Why support our mobile art studio?

Art is a universal language that connects our hearts, minds, cultures, and community through shared expression. Art has been recognized for centuries for its wonderful and therapeutic effect it has on our physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

At our art studio, families will be able to explore different mediums, learn new skills, have fun, relax, and connect with others through shared expression. This project will also provide a resource to emerging artists by giving youth the opportunity to develop their artistic skills in a safe environment.

Our studio will offer a variety of mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpting, woodworking, sewing, textiles, and more.

The Craig ART Studio will be free and accessible at regularly scheduled times three times per week, particularly after school and weekends. The studio will also be featured in Alderney Landing's community events such as their July summer art camps; Canada Day, the Chriskindlmarket; festivals such as Mother Goose, Multifest, Fire and Water, and more.

Unique to the area, the project will compliment the art education currently being taught in public schools by providing an additional outlet for creative expression, further supporting the future of our art community.

The Craig ART Studio will also help promote The Craig Gallery as a space for artists to exhibit their work and provide the community with an opportunity to engage in artistic cultural exploration.

With your help...

Partial funding of $3,000 has already been secured for the art studio in the form of a government grant. Yet, we still need $7,500 to make it a reality. With your donations and support, $7,500 will allow us to secure:

- Art supplies and tools
- Construction of the studio
- Educational materials

It will take us approximately 8 weeks after we reach our goal to complete construction and launch the studio.

All we need now is your support to complete the project!

Please support the ART Studio at The Craig for youth by making a donation and/or sharing our campaign link. Every dollar helps!
