Dear Family, Friends, and those who can help in any way:
My name is Amy Waldrep, and I started this GoFundMe campaign asking for your help for the first time in our lives. A little over a week ago my husband and I received some unexpected news that I never thought we would ever hear or have to deal with at such an early stage in our married lives.
My husband, Craig (now 39 years old) accompanied me to a well-check appointment where he himself decided to get a check up. For a few weeks, he was experiencing some abdominal issues but he didn't think it was anything serious. After his initial appointment the doctor sent him to get some blood work done, the following day he received an urgent call from the doctor asking him to return to her clinic immediately. Another set of blood work was requested and an ultrasound of his spleen with an urgent request for the results. By the end of the day doctor advised his red blood cells were very low and his white blood cells were extremely high and his spleen was extremely enlarged. The size of his spleen was so large that it overlapped his stomach. She then advised we needed to head to the hospital immediately for further testing to determine the cause. He spent the next week in the hospital which included multiple tests, 2 blood transfusions and a bone marrow biopsy, which resulted in a diagnosis of Cancer, specifically CML a form of Leukemia.
After the initial shock of the diagnosis we realized how unprepared we were financially with the medical expenses and treatment costs that are coming our way. Craig is currently undergoing Chemo and will begin his new treatment to fight his Leukemia within the next 2 weeks. We remain positive that the treatment will put him into remission and that he can live a long and happy life!
We are not ones to ask for help, because we have always been responsible and worked hard to keep our family safe and secure. However, we now realize that we need to put our pride aside since this is going to be a long, hard fought battle for my husband and our family. The money raised will help pay for the medical bills, medication, doctor visits, and ongoing treatments until we can get back on our feet financially.
Craig and I are overwhelmed by the amount of support and prayers we have received. Please know that this is a difficult time for us and that you mean the world to us. We would like to thank you in advance for any and all help you are able to provide. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Sincerely,
Amy
