The Craig Family is in need of support. As you may or may not know they are currently pregnant with mono/di twins.
On Dec 22nd the twins (at 21 weeks) were diagnosed with twin to twin transfusion syndrome TTTS. It’s a rare condition for identical twins sharing one placenta and sac. One baby gets more nutrients and oxygen blood supply and the other twins get less, which makes the unequal growth of both babies.
They were given limited options, which included,
1. No treatment - However left untreated this condition only has a survival rate of the twins 5-10% for both twins, a 15-50% risk of neurologic handicap.
2. Terminate one of the baby - resulting in carrying both up to 37 weeks and additional complications.
3. or undergo a treatment called fetoscopic laser surgery. This procedure would give a 85% survival rate for one twin and 65% chance for both twins.
The UofI referred them to the Mayo and St Louis, however the Mayo declined their case. Nicole and Kyle drove to St. Louis on the 24th and were told the procedure was risky to perform and confidence was low. They began looking for a second opinion.
Nicole and Kyle got ahold of the TTTS foundation and we referred to a specialist in Miami. He is one of the best in treating this diagnosis. The doctor looked over the case on Christmas Eve and urged them to meet no later than Monday. Time is not on their side due to the stages of this condition.
As of Dec 27th, they are going to proceed with the operation.
At this time we are asking for prayers and keeping them in your thoughts throughout the next few days.
As you can imagine the emotional, and financial stress this brings on their family. The funds raised will be used to help with the unexpected (out-of-pocket) emergency surgery, weekly doctor visits to specialists, and to give these girls a chance at life.
