Help Us Build a Lasting Tribute at the Entrance to Craig Blake Park, Dartmouth NS
The Canadian Naval Divers Association (CNDA) is raising funds to build the Craig Blake Memorial Archway, a permanent landmark that will stand proudly at the entrance to Craig Blake Park in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This memorial honors Petty Officer Second Class Craig Blake, an elite Clearance Diver with Fleet Diving Unit (Atlantic), who was tragically killed by an IED on 3 May 2010, just two weeks into his first deployment to Afghanistan.
Craig was the first Royal Canadian Navy member lost during the Afghanistan conflict. He was a dedicated family man, a respected teammate, an avid triathlete, and a beloved member of the diving community. His legacy is woven deeply into the fabric of the Clearance Diver occupation and the Royal Canadian Navy.
This memorial ensures that his sacrifice—and the sacrifices of all naval divers—will remain visible, honored, and remembered for generations.
Our Mission
We aim to raise $60,000 for the design, fabrication, installation, and long‑term preservation of the Craig Blake Memorial Archway.
The project has already been approved by the Halifax Regional Municipality, and once funded, will become a permanent and meaningful addition to Craig Blake Park.
About the Memorial Archway
The memorial is designed as a sculptural archway that symbolizes transition, service, and remembrance. It captures the many dimensions of Craig Blake’s life:
Community
A hockey stick and puck integrated into the base honor Craig’s passion for coaching and mentorship.
Naval Service
The Clearance Diver crest, anchor, and diving equipment represent Craig’s elite professional identity.
Athleticism
Flowing motifs of swimming, cycling, and running reflect his dedication to triathlon and teamwork.
Remembrance
Built‑in planters, seating, and commemorative plaques create a place for reflection.
Two additional plaques will honour Clearance Divers and Ship’s Team Divers who have lost their lives in service.
The archway is designed to be a gateway of reflection—a place where family, sailors, veterans, and the public can connect with the legacy of a hero.
