Craig Beiersdorff's Eye Treatment
Donation protected
Craig Beiersdorff has been one of my closest friends for nearly 40 years. We went to high school together but really became close while attending Rock Valley Community College in 1982-83.
Craig has had glaucoma since he was 16. He lost the use of his right eye when he was 22. His left eye has been deteriorating slowly over the years and it's progressed to the point where has lost about 70% of the vision in that eye. At first it was just peripheral but recently it has crept into the center of his vision which makes life extremely difficult . For example he can't read and can only see parts of people's faces and the parts that he can see are very blurry. As you can probably imagine that makes it very difficult to work and interact with people.
There is no cure for glaucoma but there is a new treatment that can improve the vision that's left. The treatment itself is in the study stage but the studies that have been done so far have had very promising results. The majority of people who receive the theatment show at least some improvement and many have had significant improvement.
The problem Craig faces is that the clinic where the study is being done is on 42nd street in Manhattan and he will need to be in NYC for 21 days so lodging in the area is going to be very expensive. I'm trying to raise money for his lodging and for the cost of the treatment itself.
If you live in New York and are unable to contribute financially to this campaign you could also help by putting Craig up for part of his stay. Contact me if that is something you're be willing to do. Craig is one of the smartest and funniest people I've ever had the pleasure to know and I know he'll be a great house guest.
