My friend and yours was hit with some bad news recently. What started out as simple trip to the doctor for a sore on his leg and an achy back quickly took a turn. Almost immediately, he was in a helicopter being life flighted to the Cleveland Clinic with a hematoma on his spleen and an infection that destroyed his aortic valve in his heart. Upon arrival (March 31st), he underwent a 4 hour spleen embolization - but that was just the beginning. Doctor's soon realized the infection that seemingly caused the issues with his spleen, had entered his blood stream wreaking havoc his other organs including liver, kidneys, heart & caused two mini sepsis strokes.
What was already a complicated surgery, suddenly got more complicated - and risky. Doctor's advised in addition to the spleen surgery, Craig would also need a liver transplant and a new heart valve just to survive. 21 hours later, the surgery was considered a success.
9 days later, Craig went in for an abdominal wash and to properly close his muscles but doctors were having trouble getting him off the ventilator. He was sent back to the ICU for irregular heart rhythms and labored breathing only to find that his left lung had collapsed and he was back on a ventilator (for a third time).
Last week, Craig was finally able to leave the Clinic. Unfortunately, the move was to a physical rehabilitation facility where he is getting assistance to learn how to walk again. The infection had done a number on his spine as well. Craig still has a long road to a full recovery but if there is little doubt he will get there.
What we are asking for and hoping to accomplish with this Go Fund Me page is to raise money for the Sundays - Craig, Jami, Alaina and Ava. Anything you can spare would be appreciated.
