Crabby Coffee was born from the dream of two coffee lovers from Michigan who didn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. Crabby Coffee is our way of saying ‘heck yes’ to everything we love – ethically-sourced ingredients and great coffee. Crabby Coffee’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges, we are facing significant hurdles.

Crabby Coffee was approved for financing in September but the bank dragged the process on for months until they called in December and said we weren’t eligible for funding anymore with no actual explanation. Once we lost financing with the initial bank, we went to another bank and had a way better experience. This time, they denied us in a timely manner! At this point the whole village of Onset was waiting for Crabby Coffee to open.

So what did we do? We financed everything ourselves, like we’d been doing, and started working 12-hour days at the cafe. We finished renovations this week, and planned on calling the building inspector on Monday. Unfortunately, we have encountered another hiccup along the way: The oven we bought is 240 Volts.

Now, we need to install a new circuit for the oven. Additionally, the espresso machine we purchased is defective and we need to get a new one. We’ve put hundreds of hours into the cafe, and we're so close to opening. All we want to do is bring the community handmade bagels and great, ethically-sourced coffee.
