Crabby Girl's Cancer Recovery
Donation protected
I am requesting financial support as I enter my second phase of cancer treatment. I returned to my hometown almost ten years ago to help my elderly parents, both of whom are now experiencing dementia and gradually worsening overall health. Due to the economic labor market conditions, I have worked full-time only about half of my time here, but have been fortunate enough to find supplemental, contingent, and short-time employment that has covered my expenses and allowed me to spend time with my parents and preserve their limited finances so that they can receive quality care in a senior living facility.
In the last six months, however, all of that changed. I learned in early December that I had invasive breast cancer and would need to have treatment as soon as possible. Given this information, I had to inform my contractual employers that I would not be able to teach this semester. They understood the need to prioritize my health, and I prepared to have surgery. In March, I underwent simultaneous partial mastectomy and breast reduction surgery and have been blessed with a smooth recovery. This week, I started radiation treatments that are scheduled to last for about 3 weeks.
As I approach a point where I will run out of paid leave, have medical bills due, and am struggling to cover my regular living costs, I am seeking financial help. The 7,500 that I hope to raise is the amount that I would have earned through my contractual work plus the additional medical bills, and new bras.
One last note, because this is a somewhat public appeal, please know that I have sheltered my parents from news of my cancer and treatment, in an effort to reduce their worry and protect their fragile overall health. I prefer this to be my burden, not theirs at this phase of their lives. Thank you in advance for maintaining discretion about my healing journey in any communication with my parents.
Thank you for your continued prayers, consideration and support. This has been a season of renewed perspective and love for life. I will keep you posted about my journey!
