Let’s help Bella

Bella  is our one-year-old Frenchy Baby and she needs our help more than ever right now  she has one option and it’s emergency airway surgery the doctors say unless we do the surgery she won’t make it .                     Bella was a surprise Christmas gift for my girlfriend last  November she was 12 weeks old when we got her the day we picked  her up We absolutely fell in love is her    She had everybody’s heart  from the day she met them. We noticed when we got her she snored quite loudly  but after some research we did realize it was the breed and she could have potential complications later on in life but we were keeping an eye on it ,  in January   Bella started to regurgitate food quite  soon after each meal  this time we were concerned and brought her to the first vet that is when we were notified that she was a brachial  breed but she seem to be in very good health from what they saw .I wasn’t confident in what they said and wanted a second opinion the regurgitation was worrying me so I brought her to the second vet where I was told she’s a perfectly healthy Frenchy this is normal they all do this.  In February Bella had an episode that I have never seen before her whole body was contracting almost as if she was choking I held her and rubbed her back after about a minute she vomited a lot of fluid and food up, she did seem to be perfectly fine after this and back to her normal self I panicked and called the vet the very next morning a third vet now ,Tavistock animal hospital We brought her and told the doctor what was going on they did some x-rays   And confirmed that she did have brachial airway syndrome,The doctor  said we could go in and repair this issue but it wasn’t severe so she could live without the surgery it would just be a better quality of life if we got it done , the doctor said lots of Frenchy’s live like this and they’re fine they just recommend we don’t over exert her    At this point of time in our life we were getting ready to move to the states and we’re leaving in a couple weeks  we decided we would go ahead with the surgery and wanted her to go to the best Tavistock veterinarian referred us to OVC .

We were rolling into March and leaving in a few weeks we got her appointment and spoke to reception letting them know our plan to drive down south in a few weeks but really wanted to get Bella in before we left they had a doctor call us , The doctor did not recommend at all she have this airway surgery that close to us leaving as if there were complications on the way down there they would not be a doctor available to her .Due to the fact we were told she would live fine without the surgery we decided to wait and see how she did in the south

Things didn’t end up working  out down south and we were returning back to Canada just to soon as we left, We headed back in early April at this point Bella was still doing the same the odd regurgitation After eating and drinking this went on until May and I have been doing a lot of research in regards to things to try. an option that we were looking into it was Raw feeding .The end of May rolled around  and Bella just was not into eating her food for a few days and  we had gone to a dog convention and got samples of raw food  so I figured I would start her on the raw.She absolutely loved it  and did considerably well for about three weeks not a lot of regurgitation I mean not as much as the usual I thought we were making progress.

We were now rolling into July and the  regurgitation  seem to be happening more frequently but she was eating, at this point I’m just completely Frustrated and overwhelmed and I don’t have the funds to keep bringing her to different vets.  I’m a part of a lot of Frenchy groups so thought that I would post in them a bit of what’s going on and ask for some guidance .A lady message me and told me about a veterinarian in Cavan Ontario  that sees a lot of French bulldogs on the regular I decided we needed to make the three hour trip to see somebody who specializes in the breed we had her appointment set up for August 24

I had videos of Bella falling asleep standing up constantly all kinds of different strange things she does showed the veterinarian everything he said he had never seen a dog fall asleep like that and all of his career that it was strange and he wanted to do his own x-rays .  We spent hours at that Vet  The doctor said her nAres  we’re pretty large and her airway sounded great he didn’t think she had  brachial airway syndrome but instead found in the x-rays an   Enlarged oesophagus    And explain to us he was almost sure she had  Megaesophagus .   The doctor also wanted a second opinion and wanted to send her results to a radiologist  .We finally have answers And Are told once again she can live perfectly fine it’s more of a managing  this over  anything .  I seemed  to be very confident for once in a veterinarian that we have finally found out what’s wrong with Bella and we just have to manage that fine ! The doctor gave us some great tips on things to try such as a Bailey’s chair  which one of our dear friends made for us and also to keep Bella upright for 15 to 20 minutes after each feeding so her food will be pulled down into her stomach , The doctor also recommended we come back after 12 weeks to repeat x-rays to see how her oesophagus is doing he was hoping it would repair itself and regain muscle  so we jumped right in and started googling this disease and are now part of mega esophagus support dog groups  Bella did good with the new routine for about 2 1/2 three weeks and then it seemed that we were back to square one . These groups were very helpful but it seems everything they recommended to try did not work including uprite feelings for longer periods of time .

Over the last month I just felt that Bella was not doing well she’s hungry all the time and not keeping any food down the regurgitation was almost instantly after she got any food into her but I wasn’t giving up I was gonna try different things different foods  anything anybody recommended different natural home remedies  Etc.  Last Thursday I was just very overwhelmed with Bella I called thR Cavan hills  vet and just ask them what do I do to fix her things aren’t working out she’s severely underweight not keeping any food down at all and I just need help to fix her at this point . The lady recommended  OVC  and sent a referral over right away

This past Tuesday we received our appointment for December 4 I knew it would be expensive so I figured we could start saving from now it gave us about a month and a half to come up with some money . Bella couldn’t wait anymore her health deteriorated so fast in two weeks time I noticed her regurgitation was so much more and that she was losing weight

On Wednesday we rushed Bella to emergency care at OVC, she started to have head tremors that would not stop due to her potassium levels being low because she still cannot keep any food down after she was missed diagnosed.   They admitted her right away and got her on fluids  our original discussion was to start tests on her in the morning to find out what is exactly going on and what we need to do going forward . The original quote for testing was 2500 to 3500 that was not including any potential surgery she may need .  Yesterday  morning they did x-rays and an abdominal ultrasound   They found her airway was not in fact open at all and that she would absolutely need airway surgery  .

The doctors Gave  Bella  some food yesterday afternoon, when the nurses went into her crib to clean her up she got so excited that she regurgitated and aspirated she then developed pneumonia and couldn’t breathe on her own at all they had to put a tube in her throat. It all happened so fast within an hour.I called the hospital at 4:30 when I was done work and they told me about the scare she gave them they said she was in stable condition but they needed to fight off the pneumonia before even discussing any sort of surgery as she was not strong enough to go under anaesthetic.  I was heading straight to the hospital from work and the doctor said we would talk more and I could see her when we got there ,  by the time I got to the hospital at  6 o’clock   It was not looking good they said they tried to take the tube out of her throat and she cannot breathe on her own at all her airway is completely closed . The doctor said at this point there’s one option to save her life and it’s emergency airway surgery in the morning ,  they had her in stable condition hooked up to antibiotics to fight the pneumonia and wanted to keep her calm for the night and just get the antibiotics into her . The total cost for everything at this point is eight to $10,000 this all went so bad so quick and she’s my baby my whole heart I don’t know who to ask for help or where to go I’m desperate  I just need help to raise the money for  My Bella bug  I know she knew I was there last night when I saw her, her eyes started twitching when I was petting her  I will fight for her she’s strong she’s going to beat this and I need her to come home and I also just need everybody’s help more than I’ve ever needed help in my entire life   So please nothing is too little Of a donation and if you can’t donate please share so we can get my baby fixed  and pray for her
