As parents there is nothing more difficult than seeing your child go through something no child should have to endure. David and Geneva's 2 1/2-year-old son, Oliver, has been diagnosed with leukemia. For those not familiar, leukemia is a type of cancer that effects the blood and bone marrow. This world altering news was delivered last week on January 29th.
What began as flu-like symptoms with high fever and refusing food and drink, suddenly turned quickly into concern where Oliver was taken to the doctor. At the doctor's visit he had a blood test that revealed the results, and acting fast to begin treatment he underwent a spinal tap and the start of chemo the next day. Oliver went into surgery on Saturday, February 1st to have a catheter installed in his chest, which will remain until he is cancer free. He will endure weekly chemo treatments for the next few years, while still continuing with speech therapy, pre-school, and all the things a child should be enjoying at this age.
David and Geneva have been by Oliver's side every day during his stay at the hospital, doing everything they can to stay strong for him while navigating this heartbreaking news. As you can imagine, this diagnosis will bring unexpected challenges, and we are reaching out for support to help them through this difficult time. We remain strong as a family, always ready to lend support where we can, but we are hoping to lean on family and friends to be our backup support.
How You Can Help:
PRAY:
We believe in the power of positive thinking, and however you manifest it, we could use that support. Whether it be through prayer, manifestation, spiritual guidance, affirmations or visualization, any and all support is greatly appreciated. If you have the time, please check in with David and Geneva to say hello. Now more than ever a friendly phone call could mean a lot.
DONATE:
With David and Geneva focusing completely on Oliver and his treatments, daily expenses will be difficult to manage. If you are able to donate, any amount will be a blessing and help relieve some of the financial burden so they can focus on what truly matters - fighting for their son's health and keeping their family together. Your support will help them cover:
- Travel expenses for hospital visits and treatments
- Food and care for Oliver's specially adjusted diet
- Time away from work when PTO and Sick pay have been exhausted
- Medications and treatments not fully covered by insurance (can include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, bone marrow transplants and targeted therapies)
SHARE:
The amount of visibility a fundraiser receives can be incredibly powerful. By helping expose our fundraiser to a wider network of potential donors, we can hopefully raise more support for Oliver and his parents. Please share the GoFundMe link on all of your social media platforms. For greater effect, share more than once! We will be providing updates and insight on Oliver's progress and recovery, so there will be multiple opportunities to spread the word.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love, support, and kindness. We have every hope that Oliver will go into remission and be able to live a long and happy life just as we've been given. Your generosity and strength will help to carry us all through this lifelong challenge.
