The family of the late Charles Edgar Lee, Jr. is moved to create this memorial fund in honor of his life to celebrate his legacy and love for the GCTS/ Polk Clark Alumni Association.
Our Father was a remarkable individual who had a deep love and appreciation for the historical value that Polk Clark Community Center has played in the community and an even deeper appreciation for how the Center is impacting and serving the community today. This memorial fund aims to celebrate his memory and to continue his impactful work and dedication to preserve the history of the almost 100year-old legacy of the Polk Clark Community Center.
Dear to his heart, the school was organized in 1926, as the Industrial Training School for Negros. It was the only training school for black people in Gibson County. It was Later named the Gibson County Training School. Because of desegregation, in 1070, the school's name was changed to Polk Clark School.
Between the years of 1926 and 1970, approximately 1400 students graduated from the school. The school’s motto was "Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve." Charles Edgar Lee, Jr. was one of those graduating students and serving is just what he did. The school today serves as a community enrichment center used to support the community with School programs, community outreach programs, an event center, and so much more. Because of its significant impact, on March 12, 2012, Gibson County Training School was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, it has also been recognized by the Tennessee Historical Commission.
Our Father's kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to enrich the lives of everyone he met left an indelible mark on our community. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand or share his wisdom. You ask and he would tell! We are determined to carry forward his remarkable legacy and support the Polk Clark Community Center in going above and beyond in its service to the community, a vision he held dear.
This memorial fund is a beautiful way to celebrate his memory and continue his legacy. By supporting the GCTS/Polk Clark Alumni Association and their support of the Polk Clark Community Center, you are not only preserving the historical value it holds in the community, but also ensuring that it continues to impact and serve the community today, just as he had envisioned.
In lieu of sending flowers, we kindly ask that you honor Charles Edgar Lee's memory by contributing to his Memorial Fund. Your support will ensure that his work and the Center's mission continue to touch the lives of many, just as he did during his lifetime.
A Special Thanks from the Family of Charles Edgar Lee, Jr.
