You know them as the wonderful couple, Kirk and Michael. We know them as Kirkula and Mikey G. They have been a part of my lives for as long as we can remember and we know they have been a part of many of your lives for that long too.
Kirk moved to our tiny island year round in 1998 and shortly after met the love of his life, Michael. They were married in September of 2007 and have been a huge part of our community since.
Kirk has graced many of you with his kindness, humor and eagerness to please over the years. He and Michael have worked very hard to build a life out here. You may have seen Kirk working at The Rose & Crown in his earlier years, or at Jared’s. He’s been at Queequegs and has run his own cleaning company for the last few years.
In October, Kirk was diagnosed with Idiopathic Cardio Myopathy and had to be medivacted to MGH. He spent over a week in the hospital while they tried to remedy his condition with medication. Unfortunately, the medication was not enough to fix the problem and had to have a defibrillator and pacemaker installed in his chest in February.
The defibrillator and pacemaker are helping, but he is extremely limited with what he can do physically. Due to his illness, Kirk has had to go on disability to help because he can not work. As you can imagine, the bills have been piling up and they are finding it difficult to manage on one income on this island.
We are reaching out to the community that they love for your help. Any thing you can do to help is so greatly appreciated. As we all know, asking is sometimes the hardest part when you need help, so we are asking for them.
