Marleys Vet Costs

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Demi, and I am raising funds to help foot the bill of my Marley's Vet fees.

I have known Marley all his life, as I got him from a friend who is like family to me. Both of his parents were healthy, so I just assumed he would be too.

Marley was the runt of his litter, and the only boy. Born in June 2014, I never imagined he would be a poorly dog. I got him insured, and as I was in university at the time, his insurance was only £21 a month for 6k full cover, which was plenty.

Unfortunately, Marley began getting ill, and started to rip his fur out and bite at his paws, and have seizures, the vets found out he had Syringomyelia, Epilepsy, and Atopic Dermatitis Class 5 (severe allergies). He was started on treatment straight away and began to thrive.

A few years passed and he started to be very sick and not eat or drink, I took him to the Vets, and they found he had Pancreatitis, a few nights in the Vets and he was fine! Then it happened again and they found he was bleeding from his gallbladder, but he got sorted!

Marley continued to thrive and the medication was working. Then in December, 2023, he had another bout of Pancreatitis, which we found out was from some food we gave him over Christmas, and was treated and became well again.

Marley continued to thrive. In 2022, I had a terrible Mental Breakdown and had to leave my job, and joined the NHS part time so I could attend therapies and work on my personal development. Money wasn't an issue. My Mental Health was still bad, but Marley was my hero, he's my soul dog.

Then, in May 2024, I was involved in a crash, and my car was written off, therefore, my emergency bill had to pay for a replacement car. I thought Marley would be ok, and that I'd be able to save my emergency fund again, but this was never the case. Not long after, Marley had to have a heart scan, where they found he has a grade 2 murmur, but at present doesn't need medication. This bill was £1500, no problem, I had enough personal spendature to pay his 15% excess.

Then, June arrived. Me and mum decided it's time for Marley to have a little sister, so we went through a rescue and we got everything sorted and Marley met up with his little sister for a walk to see how they got on, they were fantastic!

But 2 days later, Marley took a sudden turn. He began showing all the signs of Pancreatitis again, not eating, not drinking, not comfortable, and panting. I took him to the Vets, where he remained for 4 nights on a drip. His Vet Bill £2500-£3000, again, I have to pay 15% of this, which I thought I'd figure out when I come home from my holiday. On Friday he came home, and still wasn't right but it was usual for him when he came home. Saturday, he perked up a bit then got worse as the day went on, so I decided to monitor it. Sunday came, and all his symptoms were back, except now hes struggling to walk, minus the vomiting, so I got him back to the Vets, and I was told I may need to make that tough decision if he doesn't improve. So far the fet bill is £1500.

Marleys insurance premium renewed in April, it's now June. He's used it all up, and now I have to find 15% of the overall bill, and this Vet trip is going to cost a few more thousand, as there's a secondary cause to his issues and he needs a CT scan, and has had to be intubated due to his breathing.

I'm at a complete loss. I don't know where I can find this money from to cover this now. He now costs over £300 a month as it is for his excesses I pay, his insurance, his food and health check cover. I'm in urgent need of support at this time, and I'm asking if you can even give just £1, it would be really appreciated.

I've always been the one to give and donate, but always try to be as self reliant as possible, but now this time, I really need your help. I can't do this alone.

Thank you for reading, and if you can't give, a share will be just as appreciated. Thank you so much.

Update: Sadly after drafting this, Marley took a turn for the worst and had to be put to sleep. He used up all his insurance plus £2000 over which I have to find. Despite all our efforts this battle was a bit too much for my beautiful boy and my heart is truly broken Run free over rainbow bridge my boy.
