Help Jason get his car fixed

Donation protected
Our friend Jason lost his leg in a work accident a few eyars ago and is on disability.  Because he has Type 1 diabetes, he has trouble with the prostheses and gets a lot of infections in the stump.  Last month his car broke down; it needs a new transmission.  So he had to take cabs and buses back and forth to his doctor appoints and when he was hospitalized for a few days.  The cost of transportation ate up his rent money and he ended up being evicted.  We want to raise the money it will take to fix Jason's car so at least he has one less thing to worry about while he's homeless.

He contacted us because he was more worried about his two dogs than anything else.  He had taken in a purebred Chinook male, Rogue, who had some health problems about 3 years ago and 18 months ago also took in Lolo, another Chinook with a leg injury.  The dogs are everything to him and he spends a great deal of time taking them to the dog park, walking them when his leg is healthy, and mostly making friends through his dogs.  He's a 2nd generation Chinook owner; his mom was a Chinook breeder in the early days of the breed's recovery.  (You can learn more about Chinooks at www.chinooks.org and www.chinookclubofamerica.org or there are various Facebook pages for the breed.)  My house-mate picked up both of his dogs on Sunday and we will keep them here for him as long as he needs.  They won't be turned over to any sort of rescue or shelter, we'll just keep them safe and happy until they can go back to Jason.

As of now Jason has been evicted from his apartment and is staying in a motel while he tries to find housing through the various social service agencies in the Vancouver (Washington) and Portland (Oregon) area.  He is also trying to see if he can get reimbursed for the money he spent going back and forth to medical appointments and hospitalizations since he has found out that should have been covered by his disability benefits.  But until he gets his car fixed, he's stuck.  He needs a new prostheses and wants to keep working with the same doctor and prosthetic maker (whatever job title they are called) as they think they are close to getting it right.  He can't go camp out while he's in his wheelchair but packing everything up and getting it into storage before being evicted was so hard on his leg that his stump is all messed up again.

Jason is not someone who abuses the disability system.  He is a good person who wants to get healthy so he can take care of his dogs and have a fuller life.  He doesn't have any family in the area other than a younger brother who is working his way through college in hopes that he can support both himself and Jason as fast as possible on a decent income.

If you can help contribute to getting Jason's car fixed, it would be going to a good cause.  Because of the fees involved with the fund raising, we need to raise $2500 to cover the actual repair bill, which is less than that.  Anything over the actual cost of the repairs on the car will go towards helping Jason put a deposit on a new place.  One where he can have dogs of course.

Thanks for anything you can do to help.  (If you know of a place that he can rent in the Vancouver / Portland area where he can have two older, well trained dogs, that would be great too.)
