Captain Ron Needs Help

So many of us know my father, Captain Ron Misch and his wife Anna. Captain Ron is in a bit of medical trouble right now and I'd like to share some thoughts about what kind of man he is. So, where does one start to describe a man like him?
Whether you knew him as a young boy scout, or a leader in the church, Captain Ron, Papa Nay, Mr. Misch - or grandpa, father, friend - he has taken on so many roles to so many people. A mentor, a teacher, a listener, a leader, a shoulder, a giver... a loving man with an endless heart. From opening his house to family and friends, and always having the Tupperware of cookies ready for them, to stepping in to teach his daughter's friend how to knot a tie. He has an uncanny way of not only seeing someone's need, but effortlessly helping them fill it with an easy smile and a warm hug. He is hilarious, and has an incredible sense of humor that rivals Benny Hill. He has a special way with kids; he loves his grandsons very much, obviously, but he's also been caught sneaking a friends two little boys $10 or $20 when he didn’t think she was looking so they could go buy ice cream at the Sandwich Fair, always demonstrating what patience in a parent should look like. We all love him. We all know him.
What we all may not know is that he needs help. That’s a really hard sentence to write using a very difficult word for someone like my dad. Help.
We may all know him in different capacities, but I bet we all know him as a strong, proud supporter. He's usually the one who does the helping. Actually, he's ALWAYS the one doing the helping. From his days in the 1st Division Army, as a Korean War Veteran, to recently - with his incredible baking skills - the breads, the sweet treats, the chop suey - he always shared freely to anyone needing an "I care about you" pick me up. Quite simply stated, he is a man with a gentle, loving, Christ honoring heart.
My dad started experiencing pain in his left knee back in June of 2016. He doctors determined that an earlier knee replacement had worn out and needed to be replaced again. He went into the hospital on Tuesday, September 6th to have his knee replaced. While in surgery, it was discovered that he had an infection in the original prosthetic, as well as the surrounding tissue. This resulted in a terrible infection. Long story short, Captain Ron did not get his new knee. Instead he got an 8-week antibiotic infusion therapy plan, and thousands of dollars in medical bills that he would've most likely struggled silently to pay. Without the lifesaving medicine, his choices were eventual loss of the leg, or even loss of his life. Trust me when I say we are not ready for a world without Captain Ron bustling around!
It’s good that they've found the infection though. Imagine if they hadn't!! However, the out-of-pocket cost for the 8-week IV therapy is currently at $10,000. Not including the $1300 hospital co-pay he’ll need when he finally is clear enough for the new knee. If the infection is not out of his system after the initial 8-weeks, he’ll need to go another 8-week round of medications. Obviously, he cannot work. He has been off since July 1st, 2016. At best estimate, right now, he will be off work for another 14 weeks. He and his wife Anna live on a fixed income, and with him not being able to work, that income is even less. We, his 4 kids, and our families are doing the best we can to help offset the cost, and we've exhausted all of the other options for aid in this matter, so we need some help too.
The family is obviously petitioning the gates of heaven for a healing miracle and we are aware and grateful for you who have joined us. Mr. Misch, Captain Ron, Papa Nay, Dad ... whoever he is to you, has blessed so many in his lifetime. We’re praying that it’s his turn now to receive those blessings in return.
The entire Misch family would be forever grateful for whatever help we can get. If a gift of financial support is something you cannot do at this time, please at least forward the link to this page, send up some prayers for Captain Ron's recovery, pass on a note to brighten his day, anything!!! We need him to get better!!
We humbly thank you all for any help you can give!!
As we go forward in supporting our father, my sister, Ruth Ruffino will be handling all of the bill payments for Captain Ron so he can focus on recovering.
