World Transplant Games & Organ Donor Awareness

Hi, I’m Dave, 59 years old. After living with PSC, a rare liver disease, for 18 years I was lucky enough to receive a liver transplant at Addenbrooks Hospital, Cambridge in May 2023.

Words cannot fully express the depth of my gratitude for the generous gift that has been given. To the family of the donor, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your selflessness and strength during such a difficult time. Your loved one’s decision to give the gift of life has had a profound impact on us, and I am forever thankful for the second chance I’ve been given. I will honor this gift every day with the utmost respect and appreciation.

I was approached by Addenbrooks Hospital, when they discovered I was a former athlete runner, to compete in the British Transplant Games in Nottingham in August 2024. With a lot of determination and training, I managed to win a Bronze medal in the 1500 meters event. As it was such a short period between my transplant & competing I was proud to walk away with a Bronze Medal.

Late 2024 I was selected to take part in the World Transplant Games taking place August 2025 in Germany and compete for Great Britain. I am fundraising for the event to raise awareness of organ donation and to show my appreciation. I would be very grateful for any donations possible to help support this event.
