I'm Chris Westforth a Crown Point High School Alumni and former basketball player from the 1998 Boys Regional Championship team.

On January 27th, 2023, during the Crown Point vs LaPorte Boys basketball game Crown Point High School will be honoring our Regional Championship team after 25 years. This was the first and only Boys Regional Basketball Championship in school history.

In order to create some hype for the ‘98 Dogs and raise money for Crown Point High School, I challenged Kurt Klepsch a former teammate and childhood friend to a 3 point contest at halftime of the game on January 27th. He confidently accepted and the buzz started. However, we wanted to get more of our ‘98 teammates involved so we decided to adjust the format from the standard individual 3 point contest to a team 3 point contest. Kurt and I have drafted shooters randomly and created two teams. There will be 5 racks with 5 balls each set up around the court like a normal 3 point contest. Each player on a team will shoot 1 rack of 5 balls. Most made 3’s by a team in 60 seconds wins.

All money raised will be donated back to Crown Point Basketball in honor of the #98 Dogs! The Winner will get bragging rights until the next time we are invited back to the school.

Our Story:

Schools may usually only recognize State Championships but given this was the first and only Regional Championship in Crown Point boys basketball history dating back over 100 years...its a BIG Deal!

The unprecedented year of the Dogs ended in a Semi-State loss in Mackey Arena in March 1998. The run to Mackey was unheralded and unbelievable by most people as the local newspapers said it was the equivalent of aliens landing in Crown Point, IN. We may not have had any superstars but we were stacked with overachievers and lots of heart. Our Indiana State Basketball run was a 1990's version of the classic basketball movie "Hoosiers."
