We live in a beautiful and peaceful part of the world.
And we want to share it with refugee children like these, and their families. Families who are desperately trying to escape from war, and terror and hopelessness.
Like so many of you, we want to give them a chance at a better life.
We are Crichton Park Friends of Refugees, a collection of friends and neighbours who are raising money to sponsor a refugee family of four. We are working in partnership with the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) to apply to sponsor our refugee family through the federal government's Sponsorship Agreement Holder program.
It will take a minimum of about $30,000 to cover the living expenses for our family during their first year in Canada - that includes housing, food and clothing.
We hope to have our family here within about four months, and there's a tonne to do to get ready for their arrival - everything from finding them a place to live, to making sure they have boots for the kids - you name it.
So - the adventure begins. We are asking you - our friends, neighbours, paddling buddies, Trivia Night specialists, book clubbers, dog-walkers, soccer moms, doting grandparents - all the people who make this neighbourhood, this city, and this province - a caring and compassionate place, to help us achieve our goal.
We need to raise that $30,000 as quickly as possible. All donations above $25 are eligible for a charitable tax receipt through ISANS . Just email us at CPfriendsofrefugees@gmail.com with your full name, mailing address and amount you have donated and we will confirm receipt of your donation with ISANS who will issue you the receipt.
No contribution is too big or too small, and we're happy to share the news that our sponsoring group has already committed $5,000 directly to the cause.
Please note that donations made on this webpage are subject to 8% service fees that are deducted from each donation we receive. You can avoid that by sending us a cheque instead, or sending an email transfer to CPfriendsofrefugees@gmail.com. Cheques can be made out to Crichton Park Friends of Refugees and mailed c/o:
20 Kingston Crescent
Dartmouth, N.S. B3A 2M1
Regardless of the amount raised, all funds will be given to ISANS and put towards refugee sponsorship.
Thank you for taking the time to contribute to this life saving opportunity for a refugee family. We're all in this together.
You have our deepest gratitude.
