As many of you know, I love to do things that will be to the benefit of other people hence why I am going into the medical field. This Winter, UW-Milwaukee is offering a study abroad program that will be directed from the College of Nursing which I am a part of and will be heading to Kenya, Africa for about two weeks; from January 3rd through January 18th. This trip expenses includes international airfare, support for a UWM faculty member and assistant, academic costs, accommodation, cultural activities, in-country transportation, meals, visas and health insurance as well as 3 credits in Nursing.
This course will have a community health focus and include visits to referral hospitals in Kenya, and to various health care and social service organizations in and around Nairobi, the capital of Kenya; and Mwingi, a rural area in eastern Kenya. Students will learn about and be able to compare and contrast the culture, health beliefs, and health care services available for Kenyans living in Nairobi, an urban metropolois, and in the rural villages around Mwingi. Students will spend three days traveling to and experiencing the Masai Mara in southwestern Kenya, which is home to a large game reserve, and the Masai people. Students will learn about the health beliefs and practices of the Masai, and have the opportunity to experience African wildlife, while in the Masai Mara.
I am not asking a lot from you, but if you have the ability to support this great opportunity, I would great appreciate it and hopefully with your help I will be able to travel with my school and the College of Nursing and get the chance to experience this wonderful opportunity.
