Our beloved Danielle was recently diagnosed with a form of leukemia known as Core Binding Factor Leukemia. While hearing the word "leukemia" is devastating, we were relieved to learn that her specific subtype places her in the favorable risk category, with a high chance of cure and low likelihood of needing a bone marrow transplant. While this diagnosis is encouraging, there’s still a long, hard road ahead for Danielle and her family.

She has already begun an intensive chemotherapy regimen known as 7+3, along with a targeted medication called Mylotarg to improve outcomes. This isn’t an experimental treatment — it’s a tried-and-true protocol with an 80% chance of remission after the first round. However, she may still need multiple rounds to ensure the leukemia is fully gone.

Over the coming weeks, Danielle will be navigating a tough treatment journey. She’s expected to experience:

Significant fatigue and nausea

Hair loss

Fevers and rashes

A sharp drop in white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells, requiring frequent transfusions and close monitoring

A high risk of infections, managed with preventive antibiotics and antifungals

Possible liver, kidney, or neurological side effects

She’ll be in and out of the hospital, closely monitored by an amazing care team, with daily check-ins and a full bone marrow biopsy in a month to assess how well the treatment is working.

Despite everything, her heart is strong, her spirit is resilient, and her medical team is hopeful. Now begins the treatment phase — and she needs all the love, strength, and support we can rally.
