Cowboy needs our help getting back in the saddle.
This sweet boy has survived so much, and just as he started his new life, disaster struck. Cowboy is a senior Australian Cattle Dog who came into foster care after losing the only mom he ever knew. She passed away in an Alabama hospital, and he didn't know where she was. Cowboy was so despondent, he spent day after day lying in the yard waiting for her to return. Neighbors tried to take him in, but he just wanted to go home and wait for his mom.
Australian Cattle Dog Rescue Association entered the picture and got him to a vet for evaluation and treatment for a flea and ant infestation he got from his time in the yard. Then he came north for fostering in Pennsylvania. Cowboy was so good in foster care. He became more confident and, in time, there was a spring in his step.
On December 7th, he was adopted by a new mom and was looking at a fresh start on the rest of his life. He was happy, growing more comfortable every day. He started to greet his new mom with kisses.
Just 4 days later, he collapsed and was rushed to the emergency vet where he was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia. This is something that happens when a dog aspirates or breathes in vomit. His liver enzymes are also very high.
This sweet boy is currently in an oxygen tank to help his pneumonia. He has undergone x-rays and an ultrasound. There is nothing that shows he can't pull through. But the treatment he's getting hasn't been cheap. By Saturday, 12/14, after just 3 days, his bill will be $4,000. And there are more treatments needed after that.
Cowboy's new mom is devastated. But these funds are beyond anything she can afford.
Can you help? We need to make sure Cowboy can stay in the oxygen tank at least another day and have a chance to go home to his new mom as soon as possible.
