Louie Perry III, lives simply, in the little progressive town of Pahoa, located on the east side of Hawai'i Island.  Louie's style is consistent with the conscious simplicity of his lifestyle and raw beauty of Puna environment.

As a person with disabilities, Louie has always grappled with achieving what comes natural to most: looking and doing "normal stuff".   With wonderful irony, his passion in sports, unique artistic perspective, incredible perseverance and whimsical devotion has allowed him to excel beyond the norm.  Louie recalls other students laughing at how difficult it was for him to walk.  Despite this disablility, his mom enrolled him in Cross Country, the start of a life altering passion.

Louie has recived countless recognition and awards in Special Olympics and various local community races.  During the 2006 Special Olympics State meet, he broke State time records, thus winning gold in all four of the races competed.

Louie was selected to represent USA, in Cross Country at World Special Olympics, in Athens, Greece, June 24 - July 4, 2011.  This golden opportunity set the stage for the next phase of his amazing and inspiring life.  Louie won 3 gold medals in 3 of the races competed.

Louie's Art

When I was young, my dad and I used to go hunting for pigs as he taught me to become a hunter, from how to be patient, how to squeeze the trigger, to learning to use “the pointer” (my index finger).  I later realized that it was the same way with taking photos.

My uncle Ronnie taught me how to snorkel at Kapoho Tide-pools in the Puna District of Hawaii's Big Island. That is were I photographed the turtles underwater at the “Perfect Moment” and that's when my mother found the artist in me.  My mom's earliest influence and inspiration was that she believed in my talent and together, we sold my photography at the East Hawaii local markets.

Louie Perry does not photograph like your everyday photographer, as he does not look through the camera viewfinder (because there isn't one) to compose his images, but instead uses his “pointer”.

He does not know what he captures until he edits them on the computer.  Louie sees through his instinct and simplicity is his way, his art form.

Recent words from Louie:

When people help me I feel confident because all I could do is take pictures and run.  They help me reach a higher-self and find the right path by showing me lots of options.
