MEMORIAL FOR OUR HEROES

THE Daily Express proudly launches its Memorial for NHS Heroes campaign to honour the selfless sacrifice of our healthcare workers.

We are calling on our army of loyal readers to dig deep and raise £250,000 to make this stunning bronze sculpture a reality.

It is being cast by renowned British artist Nicola Ravenscroft and will carry the name of every NHS and healthcare worker who has died fighting Covid.

Their memory will be immortalised with the inscription: You laid your love for those in life. Your sleep is not in vain.

The monument will proudly stand in a central London location yet to be decided.

Equally significant sculptures, will be unveiled in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in acknowledgement of the nationwide fight against the virus.

The cost of the project is being underwritten by National Lottery operator Camelot.

It has backing at the very highest level with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was admitted to intensive care during a near-death brush with Covid, Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid and new NHS England chief executive Amanda Pritchard all four-square behind the project.

The fundraising drive is being led by Watford MP Dean Russell, chairman of the memorial’s organising committee, said: “This will be a powerful reminder to all of us of the bravery and sacrifice all of our NHS staff and social care workers have made during this global pandemic. There can be no finer lasting tribute to the extraordinary work of those who worked, and are still working, inside the greatest health service in the world.”

The Daily Express has created a business account where all funds will be held. This fund will then be matched by Camelot, who will ultimately use the total fund to build the sculptures
