Covid19 Survival Plan

A friend recommended we reach out to all of you. My husband TJ and I are going through a rough patch right now. I am unemployed, have been since Custer Elementary didn’t renew my contract. Try as I may over the last 12 months, I have not been able to find a job that pays our bills. At this point we are very close to out of our reserves of money to make ends meet. We paid August rent but that drained the last bit out of our checking account.

TJ is teaching at both Renton Technical College and City University of Seattle as an adjunct faculty. As of right now he does not have any classes and won’t be getting any before Fall quarter. We are asking for help over these summer months while we are both unemployed with the hopes that he gets enough classes in Fall to cover the bills. He is also a Navy Veteran.

So, what about unemployment you ask? Well because TJ was completing his MS in Computer Science before he began teaching, he does not have enough work hours to qualify for unemployment. We are trying to fight it, but it doesn’t look good. I applied for unemployment at the beginning of April and it is still in adjudication with no payments all these weeks. Again, we are trying to fight it, but the state is so behind on cases, just watch more about that on the local news.

I am looking for a job in the Education field. I have a master’s degree in Teaching with endorsements for K-8.  This has been hard over the last year due to my only supervisor having been a very bad administrator. She has been telling lies about me to other school districts which makes it hard to even get an interview. I am applying from Olympia area all the way up to North Seattle. In the meantime, I am applying to be a substitute with local school districts. I honestly have no idea what subbing will look like with the pandemic and remote learning.

On top of everything else we were in a car accident in March that totaled our car. We were not at fault. The other guy’s insurance paid off the car and gave us $300. We used that to get the car we have now so that TJ will be able to get to work in Renton and Seattle. But our car payments went up because it’s a newer car. Same thing with the insurance it went up too. We are still seeing a chiropractor twice a week for injuries from the accident.

We live in Lakewood.  We just need help getting through the next few months. In the meantime, I will continue looking for work and applying what I do make from my photography to our bills. So far, I have not been able to land any new photography clients due to Covid19.

Here is what we need to help get us through to October:

Car payments $420
Car insurance $350
Rent for 2 months $3,380
Cable bill for two months $130
Cell phone bill for two months $260
Water $70
Garbage $120
Sewer $117

Total = $4,847

We have waited as long as we could to ask for help but we are in real trouble. Please everyone if you can help now is the time to. Help me get to the point of being self-sustaining and able to fully give back to the community again!
