COVID-19 Support for Refugees!
Donation protected
Friends of Kisoro is a community-based organization that provides psychosocial support and mental health care to refugees in the UNHCR Nyakabande Transit Camp near Kisoro, Uganda. Most refugees in the transit camp are fleeing violence from the Eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The conflict in the DRC remains one of the most unrecognized, yet deadly and protracted humanitarian crises. For nearly 3 decades, the region has been devastated by political instability, armed conflict, sexual violence and widespread human rights violations, resulting in over 5.4 million deaths (IRC). In recent years, public health emergencies including Ebola, Measles and COVID-19 have intensified an already dire situation. Since late May 2020, 45,000 people have fled the DRC towards Uganda to seek refuge. (UNHCR )
Due to COVID-19, the Uganda borders and the Nyakabande Transit Camp have been essentially closed - causing unprecedented need. With the transit camp set to re-open by the end of 2020, $10,000 will ensure that Friends of Kisoro can provide quality and safe psychosocial support to refugees who have fled unthinkable violence. Your donation will be essential in providing our staff with operational support and the refugees we serve with life protecting PPE.
A little goes a long way! Your donation will go towards:
- COVID-19 supplies for staff & refugees
- Salary support for psychosocial workers
- Materials for psychosocial support & activities
- Operational support for Friends of Kisoro as we navigate unprecedented times
Thank you for your time and consideration! Stay safe & healthy.
With Gratitude,
Betsy Miles Charity Musiimenta
Executive Director, Friends of Kisoro Program Manager, Friends of Kisoro
