Our friend, Aleli Basbas-Tonelete has been hospitalized since May 16 with COVID-19. We all know her by her bubbly personality and her energetic and lively spirit. Not only is she a great woman, the breadwinner of the family, a loving mother to Regis, and an amazing wife to Ramphie, she is also a critical frontliner during these extremely volatile times. As a nurse, both her patients and her peers are all testament to how passionate she is at her job and how much she cared for her patients. As a friend, she will always be the one pushing for group pictures, urging everyone to document every millisecond of every hangout and get-together. She will always be the first one to extend help and rally up the support and prayers of people around her whenever someone she cares for needs assistance.
Aleli was intubated and is currently medically sedated. Last June 26, after almost 6 weeks of intubation, her medical team and the family considered and moved forward with the tracheostomy procedure. They are also slowly weaning her off the antibiotics and the other medicine they were administering her. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has not only afflicted Aleli but also the two most important men in her life. One week after she was sent to the hospital, her husband, Ramphie, also contracted the coronavirus and was rushed to the hospital. After three hours in the emergency room, he was intubated and later on sent to the ICU. Their 19-year-old son, Regis, followed suit a day after. He was in the ICU on high flow oxygen for over 11 days.
This time truly has been hard on their family. We believe in Aleli’s might, the kindness of her spirit, and how strong she is to beat this virus. Considering the length of their hospitalization and the anticipated rehabilitation program necessary for their full recovery, both Aleli and Ramphie would be unable to work for a prolonged period of time. If she has touched your life or even blessed you with a glimpse of her sweet smile, we would like to ask for your help in rounding up funds to assist her family in shouldering their mounting household bills, hospital bills, and for Aleli and Ramphie’s eventual rehabilitation.
While we understand that the pandemic has affected our whole nation monetarily, we need your help. If you can afford to help in any capacity we know that Aleli and her family would appreciate it, if not please give this a share. We continue to ask for your fervent prayers for Aleli and her family’s recovery.
