COVID-19 Recovery Fund for Shipibo-Konibo Family.
Community,
On behalf of a beloved Shipibo-Konibo family from the Ucayali, Yarinacocha region of the Peruvian Amazon, I am reaching out for urgent support.
Leidy Martinez and her family have been affected by and recovering from COVID-19 for months now.

Her mother, Celia Panduro is currently still very ill with COVID in addition to neumonia and has been unable to receive further medical aid due to lack of funds, as there is absolutely no support from the federal government to the Indigenous people.

The Shipibo-Konibo community along with many other Indigenous people remain extremely vulnerable to the virus, exposing them to extensive illnesses without immediate access to medical care. While they are treating more illnesses with plant medicines, the elders of these communities remain at risk and are in dire need of financial + medical support at this time.
As hospitals in Pucallpa have collapsed in capacity and can no longer accept and treat new patients, the majority of funds raised will contribute to hiring a medical specialist from Pucallpa to travel to the native community of San Rafael where Leidy’s family lives to give Celia an intensive at home treatment.

Leidy and Celia are well recognized matrilineal Shipibo-Konibo potters who have preserved their traditional craft and life ways for generations.
Leidy has been traveling by boat to the village of San Rafael, 5 hours away from Pucallpa to deliver her family medicine, food and daily needs. Every boat trip Leidy takes from the city to the village is challenging as the boats are small, wooden rafts, affecting her health by lack of protection from hot and windy climate.
While Leidy has been traveling to the village, her children and grandchildren have been in lockdown at their home in Pucallpa unable to work as a motokar driver. Leidy is a single mother whom is still recovering from the virus and does not have available energy and time to make an income to provide for herself and her family, especially now as tourism is nonexistent and their craft is not being sold.

With the support of community, we hope to raise the funds sufficient for their current needs.
If you have been impacted by the Shipibo-Konibo people and traditions, please consider contributing to a family in need.
Thank You.
