Sri Lanka is experiencing an unprecedented COVID-19 surge, shattering the lives of hundreds of thousands of families. Surging Delta variant infections have overwhelmed the nation’s hospitals, morgues and crematoriums. Shortage of medical equipment, particularly medical ventilators, is allowing preventable deaths to occur unimpeded. Help us save lives by providing urgently needed medical ventilators to hospitals around Sri Lanka.
On Aug 21, 2021, Sri Lanka reported 3884 new cases and 198 deaths - the highest daily deaths yet. Due to a lack of medical equipment and facilities, patients are currently dying of preventable causes, especially ventilators for emergency cases are urgently needed.
Sri Lankan community members (domestically and internationally) have already raised funds to buy a portable medical ventilator (ResMed Stellar 100) for the Colombo Army Hospital, National Hospital in Colombo and Homagama Base Hospital each costing 1240000 LKR (8000 CAD). We hope to continue purchasing medical ventilators for hospitals around Sri Lanka beginning with those most severely impacted.
100% of the money received will be sent to the “COVID-19 Emergency Fundraising Team” and paid directly to MediTechnology (ventilator supplier). Our supplier will be instructed to send the medical ventilators to hospitals around Sri Lanka. We will post detailed receipts on this page and post updates to our donors on the devices.
These medical ventilators will benefit afflicted residents of the largest hotspots in Sri Lanka, districts like Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy as well as potential rural hotspots given the portable nature of the ventilators.
Therefore, we request your kind support to donate whatever you can, even $5 goes a long way toward our cause. We hope to eventually raise funds for 100 medical ventilators.
Thank you,
Savi Costa on behalf of Dr. Chitralekha Abeysinghe
