We are very aware of the struggles everyone is currently facing, and we feel it is necessary to do as much as we can to help positively influence the experiences of those who may feel it the most.
We are aware that many parents won’t be able to have the resources to support the current at home learning, whether due to not having a device, internet, time to supervise their children, or food to ensure their children can focus.
However, unfortunately when this is finished, life continues. Children are expected to resume school where they would’ve and are expected to have kept up with classes. This delay still influences their future, they will still have exams, PEP assessments and all may not be afforded the opportunity to make up for lost time. Many would have missed fundamental lessons that would improve their ability to do well in their future assessments.
We want to play our small part to make this happen:
This program is aimed at hosting extra lessons for the essential grade (5) students at the Ellison Road Primary School, every day of the school week for one hour for 3 months in order to review what would’ve been taught and unfortunately missed in this time.
This would be done in hopes that children are closer to getting on track to where they should be academically. Our goal is always to level the playing field, however this time we are fighting the effects of a pandemic which is out of these children's control and we would love your help to potentially brighten their futures.
The expenses for the program are outlined as follows:
Number of Grade 5 students = 29
Cost of lessons per day = $600 (everyday for 3 months = JMD$1,566,000/USD$11306.00)
Books and snacks for students = JMD$434,000/USD$3133.34
