COVID-19 Emergency Appeal: Support Your Local NHS

As the peak of the current outbreak approaches, we are spearheading a local emergency appeal, attempting to raise funds to get support to our NHS staff on the front line. Our NHS professionals are already overworked, under resourced and on shifts that are only getting longer as the crises worsens. With cafes and restaurants closed there is a real need to get hot food to these heroes on the frontline.   Our community does not have the links and resources the major cities have but the local NHS supports a significantly sized county and will be feeling the strain more than ever. Most of us would have already seen the online pleas for help from those working in our local hospitals explaining that they are struggling to source food during the nights and with emergencies being so busy their time is better spent on patients instead of trying to source sustenance for themselves. It has also become evident that NHS professionals have tried to stock up on supplies in between shifts but have struggled due to the lack of supplies in stores locally. The number of coronavirus cases across the region is rising and the first deaths have been recorded. Sadly, and inevitably, the NHS has also suffered its first casualties; heroes who have succumbed to the COVID-19 whilst on the frontlines. Your donations will get nutritious food and sustenance to the Pilgrim Hospital for critical care staff and then maybe across the county too. We have been supported by SOS Pilgrim – Call to Action and already Raj Palace Restaurant, DoMuk, Brunch & Shapla have joined. All donations we receive will go towards providing these sustenance care packages in the form of nutritious meals along with baskets of fruit and bottles of water. The NHS and its staff are facing the most unprecedented challenges as they fight against COVID-19. Every day they are putting themselves on the front line, doing more than we can ever know to protect and care for all of us, despite the most extreme pressures. We are an excellent community and this crisis will not only create our character, but reveal it.
