Covid treatment for Wendy and her Family

Donation protected
My friend Wendy, her parents, and her siblings all have gotten Covid-19 and have been suffering for the last few weeks. The circumstance has become more dire and desperate as their conditions worsen.

I found out on November 18, 2020 when we were messaging on WhatsApp that her entire family had contracted COVID-19. Wendy has been battling this virus for 2 months now and her condition has worsened and desperately needs help.

Sickness Conditions

Wendy began having terrible headaches which she described as feeling as if her head was about to explode. She has found it significantly harder to breathe. She was vomiting every day for at least 30 days, prompted by even the slightest movement. As a result, she has been very weak, and hasn't been able to get up from bed much, as any movement results in nausea and throwing up.

She recently has suffered a bad bacterial infection in her gut, and has now been hospitalized twice as an emergency.  To investigate and collect samples from her stomach fluids, she had tubes entered through her mouth into her stomach, which also caused damage. She also recently needed a blood donation.

*Update as of 1/14/2021* Wendy described to me in detail that because she vomited for 30 days violently, the force from vomiting led to her stomach tissues and lining to tear, causing her to vomit blood. The doctors sent her a prescription to help her stomach lining heal and suppress the vomiting. She still feels intense stomach pain, but right now, they cannot put the I.V in her veins, because her veins are perforated because of so much medication.

In her words: "Todavía existe el dolor en el estómago por ahora no puedo ponerme suero en la vena por que mis venas están perforadas por mucho medicando"

Her Mom's Condition:
Her mom's condition has also worsened, with a serious respiratory infection which has led her to struggle with breathing.  Wendy told me that they have needed to rent a ventilator/respirator, which is extremely expensive. They have been selling personal and household items they own to try to scrounge together funds to be able to pay for renting the respirator and paying for medicines that help to alleviate their conditions, but it is not enough.

Wendy's brother is also afflicted with Covid-19, and has lost his sense of smell completely. H

Wendy's Dad has become so weakened by the virus that he lost his ability to stand up or walk.  Her littlest sister has not displayed severe symptoms yet, but is likely to develop more symptoms with time.

The hospitals  in Ecuador are completely full and thoroughly overwhelmed and over capacity. Ecuador is in its 2nd COVID-19 wave. There are zero available beds, and most hospitals only prioritize giving any beds to dying patients and the elderly. Wendy and her family have visited multiple hospitals to try to get treated, but none will take them. They have resorted to renting a ventilator when absolutely necessary, but they can barely afford to.

I want to raise money to help them pay for medicine and renting a ventilator machine, which both Wendy and her mom need desperately. I will be sendy Wendy these funds through Western Union, which I have used already to donate personally to her, and it works really well and is extremely secure.

Treatments and Medical Costs
The cost to rent a ventilator is $86/day. Wendy told me that medicine costs about $150 per month for her. The ventilator that comes with oxygen included costs $500.

This is something that Wendy and her family need but cannot afford. I am hoping that we can donate money so that they can afford the equipment and medicine they need to survive this life-threatening virus and have the strength to keep fighting.

PLEASE donate however much you can to help her and her family members fight Covid-19. This will be life-changing and go a long way. They desperately need financial help in order to be treated. I would like to raise at least $2000 by January 31st, and will probably be sending her money in weekly installments as this is URGENT and her life depends on it, as well as her family members'.

$2000 would at least cover at least 15 days of renting the ventilator for 1 person, plus a little extra for food and medicine to support them for at least 1 month.
My ultimate goal would be $8000, so that they could afford renting the ventilator for 2 family members for at least 1 month or longer if needed,  cost for food and medicine for the family for a few months.

Wendy and her family circumstances:
I knew Wendy from when I studied abroad in Ecuador in Spring 2017, and we became close friends. Her family has always struggled financially, her parents not having stable jobs with reliable income. Oftentimes, she would skip meals to try to save money for food for her siblings.

Wendy is an extremely kind and generous person. She is very determined and hardworking and gives everything her all.  Months before the pandemic worsened in Ecuador and soaring cases lead to lockdowns and shutdowns, she was volunteering to raise money and having food drives to help the elderly (especially those who lack family) and also the homeless. While at university, Wendy was always trying to help her family make ends meet by tutoring other students. She often stayed late on campus doing so.

A recent photo Wendy sent me from her laying in bed left me in tears. She had tears welled up in her eyes, a faint smile that she mustered with the little strength she has left, and she looked like she had lost a lot of weight. She recently sent me a Whatsapp message asking for prayers. She said some days, she doesn't know if she has enough strength to fight through the pain, and the physical ailment her body is struggling to fight. She tries to remain strong, puts her faith in God, and tries to put on a mental fight every day. She told me some days she feels like she might die, that it could be her last. She urges me to take care of myself and put my health first, because it is EVERYTHING. She's still always asking about me and how I'm doing, and it just amazes me how she can still be so thoughtful and caring of others, even when she is fighting for her life.
(Wendy sent me this photo on New Year's Eve 12/31/2021.  She was hospitalized and transferred to a different hospital because the initial one did not have the medicine, supplies, nor materials she needed to be treated. She needed a blood donation, which she received 1/04/2021. She was sent home afterwards because the hospital ran out of beds.

Please consider donating and helping out Wendy and her family members. They are really suffering and struggling to make ends meet, and they could really use your help. Let's give them a chance to live and beat this, and have the means to do so.

If you do donate, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity, and for helping my friend, who means so much to me and is very dear to my heart.
