THE JOHNSON FAMILY - KENNETH & LILLIE

UPDATE - We will be memorializing my parents with a Celebration of Life Ceremony set for Friday, May 3rd, 2024 at 2 pm, at the Houston National Cemetery. Here is the link to their Obituary.

Kenneth and Lillie Johnson had just celebrated 54 happy years together when tragically, their lives were cut short. Together, they shared a beautiful life together, one that was undeniably inspirational, blessed, and heartwarming; they were together as one in life and also in death.

After only a few days of contracting COVID-19, Kenneth took his final breath on September 18, 2021. And, less than a month later, Lillie succumbed to her illness on October 15, 2021. Kenneth and Lillie were preceded in death by their son, Kenneth, Jr. (39 when he passed); they leave behind a daughter, 2 granddaughters, and a great-granddaughter.

My name is Carey Ann Johnson and I am Kenneth and Lillie’s daughter, and since my parents’ untimely deaths, I have inherited a mountain of debt and unforeseen expenses. Although, my parents were retired, they died without any savings — they lived like most middle-class Americans and U.S. Veterans, living month-to-month with little to nothing for emergencies. Ultimately, leaving behind expenses and debt I myself have been left to manage and cover on my own.

Hence this is my leap of faith and why I am sharing this GoFundMe with you in hopes of philanthropic and “from the heart” fundraising. With your help (no matter how small), I can work towards peacefully memorializing my parents, saving their home, offsetting their medical bills and remaining debts, and tying up any and all final expenses their unexpected deaths’ incurred.

ABOUT MY PARENTS:

My dad was a proud and patriotic United States Army Veteran who served two heroic tours of duty in Vietnam. In retirement, he spent his time helping other Veterans navigating the VA system. With a warrior’s heart and the strength of many, he also spent his retirement years courageously fighting the after effects of Agent Orange and recently, winning his battle with bladder cancer. He was our Hero.

Dad was “over-the-moon” dedicated to his family - a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He always wore his heart on his sleeve, a generous gentleman who always made others a priority. We know is now with his son, Kenny, Jr., doing what they loved the most — fishing on clear blue waters.

Mom was a beautiful and delightfully funny soul who shared her faith in God with everyone she knew. She spent 40+ years as a beautician and spiritual counselor who would always share and bless her family, friends, and strangers with inspirational words.

She was a breast cancer survivor, as well as a talented artist, writer, and chef. We will miss her bottomless pots of spaghetti and her obsessive sweet tooth. My dad always said she was the sugar in his sweet tea, and the one ingredient he couldn’t live without!

IN FINAL:

Please know that my parents and their cherished memories are more than a tragic COVID-19 death statistic, to our family, they are a loss we may never overcome. Our World revolved around these two lovebirds and the incredible bond they shared; they were the glue that held us all together and now, we are forever changed.

If led to donate and/or to share our story, we truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We claim that all our needs will be met, as well, God Bless.
