Covid Relief For My Brother & His Family
Donation protected
My name is Christy, and I am trying to help my brother and his family.
For the last several weeks, my brother’s family has been battling the Corona virus. They had been doing all the right things; they’ve been safe, stayed out of the public, no restaurants, etc. Since March, they’ve only made trips out to get necessities, a few quiet trips to the lake by their house, and my brother has gone to work. My Mom has been there for the last 8 months, and in all that time has only left twice. My brother has a small farm outside of Muskegon where he grows organic produce, fruit trees, and raises free range poultry and pigs. When the virus exploded, she was on her way to surprise his family for his wife’s birthday. I told her to pack for at least a couple of months-I knew this may be bad and my Mom isn’t in the best of health and has COPD. Our first and biggest fear was of her, and that she would get this and we’d lose her.
During the last 8 months, our family has made a lot of sacrifices. We’ve planned carefully in our efforts to keep my Mom safe. My brother and his wife converted a room in their house for her to stay; they made her feel welcome and wanted, and did anything they could to keep her safe. I was careful to quarantine for 14 days before I’d visit, and we just hunkered down. Meanwhile, besides working the farm, my brother works full-time at a local production facility. He was diligent in his mask wearing, but unfortunately, most of his co-workers were not, nor did his employer enforce it. He contracted Covid shortly before Halloween. My brother is the kind of guy who doesn’t take sick days, the kind of guy who literally broke his back playing college football, but works through the pain every day in and out. He’s up at 5:00am every morning caring for the farm, and back at it as soon as he gets home from work, until the sun goes down.
Last week his wife tested positive as well. The plan was to get my Mom out of the house, but the severity of my brother and wife’s symptoms escalated so quickly, my Mom knew she had to stay and care for the children. As of my writing of this, my brother seems to be out of the worst of it, but is incredibly weak. Feeding the animals has been a struggle but he and his wife are doing their best to make sure the farm is cared for. Now, my nephew is very sick. As we pray for our Mom, we brace ourselves for her and my nieces possibly contracting Covid next.
Which brings me to my plea for help:
A wood burner heats my brother’s home, so he and his wife chop all their own wood. This normally isn’t a big deal, but the past month or so they would normally be stocking up for the cold months ahead. Due to Covid, they’ve been too sick to prepare, and likely have a long road of recovery ahead of them. With my Mom’s permission, I’d like to try and raise funds for a Log Splitter Implement for them, so that at least keeping his family warm isn’t yet another thing my brother has to worry about. While I can’t physically go help them, this is something I CAN do. I appreciate anyone who would like to help me.
Thank you
