Recently I visited this Post Soviet unrecognized breakaway statelet called Transnistria/Pridnestrovia. Not many people have heard of this “country” as it’s not on any maps, technically it doesn’t exist! But it is there, it has its own money, police force, government. It borders Moldova and in normal times , people and goods move freely across the border, including tourists. They are deeply dependent on tourists. Evghena and her family own a hostel which is normally very busy with tourists. This year there are no tourists, they’ve used all their savings to live and have nothing left for food and basic supplies like diapers for the baby. There is very limited help in these isolated places, so to support a family of 6 ( her husband and her elderly father) the average salary Is $200 a month! Her husband makes just that, which pays the taxes on the hostel which is also their home.
A drought this year has already shrunk the winter harvest by 40% for all the locals that grow food. This is turning into a disaster for them and many others like them in this area that nobody hears about. They have nowhere to go for help, nobody to ask :(.
iv’e never done a fundraiser before but this is so close to my heart as I’ve been there and stayed with them , they are the nicest family and took such good care of me . They had everything but now they have nothing other than a roof over their heads, they have no food. I sent them some money this week to buy them some food and supplies but I’m asking for help as I can’t do this on my own for long. Any little amount would help as a little goes a long way. Whatever she gets she is sharing with her friends that also have babies and children to support, herself and her husband Vlad and a friend have been using all their spare time to help with this mission , to buy the food then distribute it to whoever needs it first, families with children!Because of the financial situation there with banks etc( anyone that’s been there will know) I am collecting the money in my bank for them and I am sending it to her by western Union ( it’s the only way to do it) and she picks up the money herself from a western union location there, where she is going out herself to buy food for others. No money is just being given to others, it’s strictly being spent on food and nappies .I know many of us are struggling right now but I’m just asking anyone that can help , they have no food banks for food there, and everyone is suffering. It doesn’t look like the border will open anytime soon , so this struggle isn’t going away anytime soon.this is her yesterday buying food with what I sent ❤️ The top photo is all the government gave each family to last 2 months ..for a family of 6
