COVID Rehab for Elder

Donation protected
Matthew Santella, Mohawk, and his wife Diane are both two-time cancer survivors. They're known and loved by many across the local pow-wow circuit, and radiate love wherever they go.

On December 20, 2020, despite taking precautions, he was diagnosed with COVID-19. Matt quickly found it hard to breathe and his oxygen levels continued to drop. Under normal circumstances, he would have been admitted to a local hospital due to dangerously low oxygen and weight loss. However, his illness came during a huge spike in cases in Mississippi. Hospitals were at capacity and it was determined that he should go home with oxygen.

Matt was finally admitted at a hospital in Centerville, MS on January 26, 2021 and was discharged on February 5. After discharge, he came down with a fever and was rushed to Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, LA on February 26 where he still is.

Matt's diagnosis is Post-COVID Lung Disease, and he needs to be transferred to a rehab facility.

Matt has not been able to work since December, and Diane is not able to work because of her health. They currently have no income.

His stay at Our Lady of the Lake alone will cost over $7,000.  This does not include bills from previous hospital and doctor visits, as well as at-home medical care. He and Diane are waiting to find out if/how much of his necessary inpatient rehab will be covered by insurance.

Anything can help this beloved family. Whether you have $1, can share, and/or can say a prayer, everything is appreciated. This is a long fight, and every bit of love is appreciated. Thank you!
