Hi, my name is Sharon Day.
I am setting up this GoFundMe to help provide immediate financial relief to my daughter and her family... Kristie – her husband (Brent) and their children (including their pet children GiGi Louise and Bandit Marie).
I know for many of you, this will be the first time you are learning of the recent illnesses affecting my daughter’s home. Kristie has logged off from social media, has not publicly shared this news, and is not responding to texts. Please do not try to contact her directly as she is extremely overwhelmed right now. Her sole priority and focus are her husband and children at this moment so we are asking that you please hold off on trying to contact them directly. This recovery process will take time and she's already extremely overloaded.
That said, let me start by saying Brent was critically ill with COVID-19 but seems to have turned the corner and is now potentially on the long road to recovery. I also want to share that I have permission from both Brent & Kristie to disclose the following details.
My daughter's husband – my son-in-law – Brent Bedgood, fell ill in mid-July and was officially diagnosed with COVID-19. He was in isolation and experiencing many of the excruciating symptoms of the virus, including but not limited to shortness of breath – which has been extremely scary for everyone.
On Sunday, August 8th, one of their children also tested positive and began a mandatory 10-day quarantine. Thankfully, the symptoms have been mild – suffering from loss of taste and smell only. This also disrupted the start of the new school year – kicking it off in a virtual setting. It's been a lot for my daughter to juggle.
After several weeks of (daily) emergency room visits (that my daughter was managing to do aka "hide" before and after logging into her workday), Brent was finally admitted into the hospital on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021. Early that morning, my daughter checked his blood saturation with an oxi pulse meter and his reading was 81 and was extremely diaphoretic – she immediately called for the life squad who transported him to the ER for further medical attention.
Little did anyone know that COVID-19 was also ferociously attacking his lungs and he had developed COVID pneumonia in both lungs. His breathing became more labored with every minute that passed and he began receiving respiratory assistance with oxygen and a BiPap machine in addition to other medical support.
Brent recently accepted a new job and all of his benefits are not yet active – he does not qualify for FMLA and my daughter is working through the details of an ADA Leave to protect his employment. At this point, a return to work date is unknown. Kristie has been in continuous conversations with his employer and they have been extremely compassionate.
My daughter is one of the strongest people I’ve ever met, but this situation has really tested her. She’s spent countless hours in the hospital with Brent trying to support him and help him while she was fearful of what was going to happen and still returning home to provide all of the necessary care to her family. She has gone without sleep (at one point she was awake for almost 60 hours straight).
I will provide more details later but wanted to quickly get this campaign up and accepting donations. I want them to know relief is on the way – it takes a village!
I’d like to thank you in advance for any help you are able to extend to my daughter and her family. I will post updates whenever possible – with permission from Kristie & Brent.
Please feel free to share this GoFundMe campaign on social media, texts, and eMails.
