HOPE with Katie

Meet Katie. She is a wife and mother. She is a friend and co-worker. During the pandemic, Katie washed her hands, wore and made countless masks for others, and was hypervigilant about the transmission of COVID and what it would mean to her fellow humans.

She loved to go to the gym, bake cookies and make food for friends and loved ones who were sick, recovering from surgery, or had lost someone. She attends church EVERY Sunday and is a servant leader there. She spends many moments of her life serving and loving her community.

Katie works tirelessly as an educator to help teachers and schools become places of hope, healing and achievement. She loves fiercely and shows up to everything she does intentionally and with her values leading her actions.

Katie is our friend. In October of 2020, Katie contracted COVID. She had a headache and body aches and she quarantined and monitored her symptoms. She seemed to be suffering mild symptoms. A month in, I remember her remarking that the COVID brain fog was still lingering. By December it became very apparent to Katie and all who loved her that she was experiencing symptoms associated with what is called COVID Longhaulers. To say Katie’s life and family have been turned upside down would be an understatement.

As the doctor bills began to roll in, we gently asked Katie multiple times if we could start a Go Fund Me for her. After all, she desperately needs it and she would have done it for any one of us. There are several thousand dollars of doctor bills that Katie and her spouse are facing. She has been diagnosed with PoTS from COVID and she will live with this condition for the rest of her life. She deals with it daily. The most recent medical need for her to live her best life is a C-Pap device, which is another $500 out of pocket.

Today when I gently nudged Katie to please let us begin the process of seeking financial help from our community to nurture her on her journey, she conceded. So please, if you can, will you help Katie and her family get out from under this medical debt, so she can show up to her new life with at least ONE pressure off her chest.
