Covid Emergency Fund for Arnella “Ummi” Culbreth

Hello Everyone,

Summarizing this is painful and difficult: The week of January 17th, 2022, my mother and younger brother contracted breakthrough Covid-19 infections. Although both were fully vaccinated, on the morning of January 22nd, 2022, my mother needed to be rushed to the emergency room after her blood oxygen saturation plummeted to life threatening levels within a timespan of less than 2 hours.

My mother spent the following 3 days in Critical Condition within an Emergency Room fighting for her life, tethered to high volumes of oxygen for survival and experiencing intense respiratory distress. I was by my mother’s side the entire time in the emergency department and I witnessed first-hand how quickly and devastating the virus can impact and damage the lungs. Only after the 4th day was my mother condition stabilized, and she has remained dependent on life-sustaining supplemental oxygen while the doctors work to help restore her pulmonary function and strength as a result of the Covid-19 infection.

The past 2 weeks have been incredibly challenging for my mother, brother, and immediate family. Due to the extent of the damage caused by the Covid-19 infection, my mother’s quality of life has already become significantly adversely affected, and my mother faces a long road of lung-function rehabilitation moving forward.

There are no words to accurately describe how devastating this crisis has been on our family, but no one person has suffered in this circumstance more than my mother. No one should ever have to experience this, and what my mother has endured and survived over the past 2 weeks shows just how much of a fighter she is. She is determined to beat Covid and return home. She also remains in shock at the trauma of this near-death experience and needs all of our love, compassion, and energy. She currently remains hospitalized but we have all the faith in the world she will be coming home. When she's home, she will require comprehensive clinical accommodations to her living space to assist her as she continues her healing journey and continues to strengthen her pulmonary function.

During the past two weeks, my mother’s household has lost critical income sources as a result of their Covid infections and my mother’s ongoing hospitalization. There has never been a more critical time in my mother’s life where she has needed to be supported - therefore I have created this fundraiser on my mother’s behalf to directly assist with maintaining her household’s overhead expenses such as Rent, Utilities, and Groceries.

All additional funds will directly routed and managed as a support fund to provide critical resources to my mother to make her home as clinically accommodating as possible to assist and improve her quality of life as she continues her journey of healing post Covid-19 infection.
