Sharing my cousin's (Karen Brillante Gamulo) narrative and plea..
BATTLE AGAINST COVID-19: Be the Gamulo Family’s Light & Hope
Before midnight of March 24, 2021, my husband, Nic, was rushed to the hospital, and was initially diagnosed with severe pneumonia. On the 26th, he and our daughter, Nikki, 18, were found out to be COVID-19 positive and I reported the results to the authorities. As we all share a small space in our condominium unit, I myself, and my other two children, Nikka, 21, and Nikko, 5, were exposed. This urged me also to get us tested. Unfortunately, several days after, we were also confirmed positive for the virus, and started to display symptoms.
Last March 28, Nic was intubated as his condition worsened. On March 30, we were assisted by the local health unit to the nearest isolation facility, where my three children and I shared a room in separate beds. This setup allowed me to at least observe them. Nikka, who was also diagnosed with pneumonia, was administered with oxygen as she was having difficulty in breathing. Nothing is more heartbreaking than seeing my family like this while I myself was, and am also struggling from my own symptoms.
As of the morning of March 31, with only less than a week staying in the hospital, our bill for Nic alone is already 722,000 PHP (14,873.17 USD) and is still running. Approximately 100,000 PHP (2,060 USD) is being added to the bill each day. My husband was a former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). He has only recently started his online work, about two weeks prior to his being tested positive. As of this posting, I am yet to receive any assuring development from his condition. I am Karen Brillante Gamulo, a wife and mother, seeking for your kind assistance and prayers in these trying times as we cannot win this battle alone.
With all THANKS!
