The morning of Wednesday, December 29th started out like a typical winter break morning for Grace.
As she was leaving for work, Dax was just waking up. He complained that he was dizzy, so she told him to rest and she would come check on him at lunch, then if he was no better, she would call the doctor to get him an appointment.
She came home from lunch to find him still in bed. She woke him up and asked how he was feeling, he said he was still dizzy. He was also slurring his words a bit, but not bad enough that it gave her any warning of what was to come. It seemed pretty typical for someone who was sick, so she called and made a doctor's appointment for that afternoon.
She came home from work, he was still in bed, so she woke him up and told him that he needed to get up, they needed to leave for his appointment. He said he couldn't get up, she thought he was meaning because he was sick, so she pressured him to get up, and when he tried, he fell straight to the floor.
After having a difficult time getting out the door because he couldn't really walk, she got him in the car and they headed to the doctor.
When they got to the doctor, she couldn't get him out of the car, so the doctor came out to the car. After a brief examination, he suspected that Dax had a stroke, so he called 911.
After arriving at the hospital via ambulance, Dax began to have seizures. The doctors began running tests, which were all coming back negative... Except one. He tested positive for Covid.
He had shown none of the typical Covid symptoms. The symptoms he was having were worrisome enough, the doctor thought it was best to transport him to Primary Children's Hospital.
After running every other test, and everything coming back negative, they did an MRI. They had waited to do this, because they were trying to avoid giving him anesthesia. The MRI came back showing that his brain stem was inflamed, and the results were something that neurologist had never seen in his career.
Today marks 6 days since this happened. At this point, Dax has lost motor functions, He's unable to walk or talk, and the doctors haven't been able to give any kind of prognosis as to what his future looks like.
Dax is a powerful little boy, and he's working hard on healing his body. While he is healing, his mom, Grace is out of work. She's a single mom to Dax and his little sister, who always goes above and beyond for everyone else. This time, she needs our help. Please consider donating! Any amount helps!
Grace doesn't have a Venmo. If you would prefer to donate through Venmo, so as to avoid the GoFundMe fees, it can be sent to me, and for transparency purposes, I will share my transaction history, so there's no question where the funds are going.
